PERN is proud to announce that we are now an OISC2 regulated body for asylum and protection. It’s a big step on a long journey to ensure that all people seeking asylum living in Cumbria get the legal support they need and are entitled to in order to make their best asylum case possible. Congratulations to James Adamson who is the PERN OISC2 Legal Adviser after much study and a two hour external examination. We’re a strong versatile team available every week for our Drop-in based at Carlisle College. Thank you to Carlisle College for hosting us.
Last weeks drop-in saw PERN writing several letters about asylum support, advising someone with a complex asylum case, no legal aid lawyer and their substantive asylum interview in two days time, comforted someone overwhelmed by the stress of life in limbo with no certainty of their future and worked with a group on preparing their asylum case with the help of the Right to Remain Toolkit. It’s tough being a front line service in an increasingly hostile environment but that’s nothing compared to the difficulties for those who live underneath its hold on their lives.
