PERN Legal and Information
For asylum seekers and refugees
PERN Legal and Info is a Cumbria-wide legal and information service for asylum seekers and refugees.
The service is regulated to IAA Level 3 in Asylum and Protection (N202331531). IAA is an acronym for Immigration Advice Authority.
Our service can help with:
- Asylum support issues, including loss of support, ARC or ASPEN card issues
- Bail issues
- Help to prepare your asylum claim
- Access to the Right To Remain toolkit
- Legal advice on your asylum claim
- Legal advice on an asylum appeal
- Family Reunion
- Finding a lawyer
- Lodging fresh claims
Finding and Using This Service
For Carlisle, Whitehaven, Wigton, Workington and other areas of Cumberland please email legal@pern.org.uk or attend one of our drop-ins, which run:
- Every Tuesday from 4pm until 6pm in Carlisle
- Every Monday from 10am until 12pm in Workington
Please contact us for the location. You do not need to book in advance but if you are coming to the Carlisle drop in from West Cumbria we highly recommend emailing us before coming. Bus fares are reimbursed for asylum seekers living in Cumberland.
For Barrow and other areas of Westmorland and Furness please email chris@pern.org.uk or attend the Barrow drop-in, which runs every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm. Please email hello@pern.org.uk for details, including location.
Interpreters
We have a team of volunteer community interpreters who support the PERN Legal & Info service, but we encourage you to find a friend to interpret for you. Your friend can attend with you or can be available over the phone. If you do not have or do not wish to use a friend please tell us and we will arrange necessary interpreting.
