There is a huge amount of misinformation in the media about refugees and asylum seekers. The UK Government ratcheted up the anti-refugee rhetoric ahead of passing the Nationality and Borders Act in April 2022. They also did the same when they tried to push through the Rwanda deportation scheme, which has thankfully now been cancelled due to the new government.

Please read our fact sheet below, and get talking to friends and family about the true reasons people come to the UK, which are to seek protection from persecution, war and violence. Spreading the word about the true plight of asylum seekers and refugees, countering the media misinformation, is a really important way of helping. We strongly encourage you to write to your local MP too and show solidarity by putting up a poster from the Together with Refugees campaign.
