Congratulations on receiving your refugee status! PERN’s Refugee Support Service provides people who are new refugees with long-term person-centred support and guidance to navigate life, live and thrive in the UK. This includes support with:

  • Accessing your eVisa
  • Applying for Universal Credit
  • CVs, jobs and careers 
  • Housing
  • Study and training
  • Travel documents (a fee applies for this)
  • Healthy living
  • Money management
  • Improving your English
  • Social well-being and community
  • Almost any other issue where you may need advice or guidance 
 
PERN’s Refugee Support Service is run by a dedicated and skilled team of volunteers and staff, some of whom have lived experience of the asylum system and others who have long-term experience of living in the UK. Our team run drop-in sessions in central Carlisle on Tuesdays (13:00-15:00) and Thursdays (10:00-13.00) most weeks of the year. If you need to know the drop-in details, please get in touch. There is no need to book – you can just turn up.

*This service is for refugees who have come through the asylum route. This service is not for refugees who have come through the resettlement route, other visa schemes or work-sponsored visas.*
