Letter: Reverse 28 Days Decision

We have signed a letter, alongside 60 other organisations, sent to home secretary, Shabana Mahmood, and the housing secretary, Steve Reed, asking them to cancel a controversial new policy that halves the length of time asylum seekers have to leave government-provided accommodation after they have been granted leave to remain, from 56 days to 28 days.

At PERN we know that 28 days is not long enough for someone to find rented accommodation and a job, and it therefore risks more refugees becoming homeless. This is unacceptable.

We hope this new policy is scrapped as soon as possible.

You can read the open letter here or The Guardian article here. Thank you to Homeless Link and NACCOM for facilitating this action.
