Escape to Safety
A Simulated Experience of Asylum Seeking
@ Carlisle College, CA1 1HS
Monday 26th February – Friday 8th March 2024
A collaboration between Penrith & Eden Refugee Network (PERN),
Carlisle Refugee Action Group(CRAG), Global Link (Lancs) & Carlisle College
Open to the public on Thursday 29th February and Tuesday 5th March from 4pm to 7.30pm.
Escape to Safety’ is an interactive, multi-media walk-through exhibition (designed by Global Link in Lancaster) where you put yourself in asylum-seekers’ shoes and listen to and experience refugees’ stories as you navigate through the exhibit and complete activities associated with it. It involves a powerful combination of a reconstructed journey with audio, some short films, VR, conversations with the students and thought-provoking introductory and follow-up exercises.
Closely linked to the schools’ curriculum and Post-16 studies, the project will be open to all the college pupils, local schools and the wider community. Please contact Morna Sims if you would like to book a time for your school to visit.
The exhibition will be open to the public on Thursday 29th February and Tuesday 5th March from 4pm to 7.30pm. No need to book – just turn up. All are welcome.
Volunteering
Are you interested in helping to raise awareness of the plight of asylum seekers coming to this country? We’re looking for volunteers to help with Escape To Safety, a powerful exhibition that is coming to Carlisle College.
We need a small team each day to support the running of the exhibition and associated activities, and to chat to the students to ensure they gain maximum impact from it.
Full training will be given and there will be a choice of dates/times on offer.
