Penrith and Eden Refugee Network

Asylum seekers to Cumbria

We believe there is a case for Cumbria to welcome asylum seekers. We have the support of Tim Farron MP and backing from RAMP (the Refugee, Asylum and Migration Partnership) and are in discussion with our local MP Neil Hudson and Cumbria County Council about this.

We are reasoning that:

  • outward-looking communities thrive and are successful as they are better able to grasp new opportunities, grow their economy and create local employment,
  • a community that is diverse is open to innovation and change,
  • Cumbria needs adults of working age in its job market, and
  • Cumbria is a welcoming place and committed to humanitarian compassion.
